From September all new entrants to post primary education will be eligible for school transport to their nearest post primary education centre if they live 4.8km or more from their nearest Post Primary education centre having regard to language and ethos.
For parents in Castlefinn, Ballindrait and Doneyloop this means their children may be forced to attend secondary school in Raphoe, if they have no other way of getting to school other than the school transport system.
Ms Brid McGrenra lives in Alt. Her eldest child attended St Columba’s, she currently has one boy there in third year, but her third child, currently attending St Safan’s NS Drumdoit, will not be eligible for school transport to St Columba’s.
“If the new regulations are kept in place my son will be forced to attend secondary school in Raphoe, either Royal & Prior or Deele College, which I believe is oversubrscribed already.”
The parents have organised a meeting at the Castlefinn Partnership Initiative for Monday evening 8pm.
