DONEGAL Action for Cancer Care has welcomed the “excellent” news that the Letterkenny Breast Cancer Unit is now holding Saturday clinics in an attempt to shorten waiting lists.
The Letterkenny Breast Cancer Unit will hold clinics on Saturdays in November and December to alleviate long waiting lists.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Betty Holmes, Chair of Donegal Action Cancer Care, said she was amazed to hear the number of women that were being seen at the breast clinic.
The clinic that covers south Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim has had over 3,000 breast care patients this year. Of those, 2,000 were new patients.
“That’s an awful lot of people,” she said.
Ms Holmes said they want to congratulate the consultants and the breast care staff for the excellent service they provide.
“This is a positive reflection on the excellence that exists at the breast unit at Letterkenny University Hospital.
“They need to be congratulated for making that extra effort to ensure that the women who needed to be seen at the breast unit are being seen.”
The annual Northwest Breast Cancer Charity Ball is set to return next Friday, December 2 at The Silver Tassie Hotel, Letterkenny.
The event has been a massive success in previous years and this year will be no exception, with special guests such as RTÉ presenter Miriam O’ Callaghan attending.
Ms Holmes is looking forward to the sold out event.
“It is good to hear where all the money raised goes,” she added.
