THE landmark former Oatfield factory has been sold for an estimated €1 million.
The ‘sale agreed’ signs were posted on the two-acre site at the junction of Letterkenny’s Ramelton Road and De Valera Road in recent days.
The owner, Donegal Investment Group, formerly Donegal Creameries, has done a deal with a corporate client to sell the site which was on the market for €900,000.
Henry McGahey of DNG Boyce Gallagher, told the Donegal News that there had been “a lot of enquiries” about the former factory site.
“There’s a fair bit of interest for commercial sites in Letterkenny at this moment in time and this site ticks a lot of the boxes.
“There was good demand and interest in the site which has been acquired by a corporate client,” Mr McGahey said.
The Oatfield site is zoned for ‘general employment’ within the county development plan 2018-2024. It has in the past been mooted as a possible transport hub with residential apartments incorporated into it.
“It’s still too early to say what plans they have for the site,” he added.
It is a decade since operations ended at Oatfield Sweet Factory and initially it was hoped a new tenant could be found. When that proved unsuccessful the factory was demolished in 2014 and the site has been vacant ever since.
