Former Tanaiste and Donegal TD., Mary Coughlan is in mourning after the death of her mother.
Marian Coughlan, the widow of former TD Cathal, died on Friday night. Mrs Coughlan (nee Breslin) passed away at the hospice in Sligo. She was a well-known businesswoman in her earlier years and helped her family run the Abbey Hotel in Donegal Town.
Her daughter, Mary, is one of Donegal’s best-known politicians in recent years having served as a Fianna Fail TD until 2011. She also served as Tanaiste between 2008 and 2011.
Mrs Coughlan’s funeral will take place on Tuesday from her late residence, the Lodge, Inver, County Donegal. Following funeral mass at St Mary’s Church, Frosses, Mrs Coughlan will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
