THE funeral will take place in St Eunan’s Cathedral at 11am on Thursday morning of Joe ‘Dodo’ Winston.
A native of the Cathedral town, Mr Winston (77) passed away following a short illness. His death on Monday evening was learned of with great sadness in Letterkenny and throughout Donegal.
A retired ESB employee, Joe was a talented sportsman who enjoyed great success with Donegal and St Eunan’s GAA club. He also lined out for Letterkenny Rovers.
Dodo was a member of the Donegal GAA team which won a first Ulster title in 1972, scoring five points in the final against Tyrone, while he collected a second provincial medal two years later (‘74).
He was part of the Donegal U-21 management team alongside PJ McGowan and Jimmy White that won the All-Ireland title in 1987.
He also lined out in the black and amber colours of St Eunan’s and enjoyed success with the club as a player, coach and manager.
Predeceased by his daughter Elaine in 2012, he is survived by his two sons Kevin and Darren, grandchildren and their mother Mary.
