Sadness at passing of country legend Big Tom

Country music star Big Tom who has died at the age of 81.

COUNTRY music fans across Donegal will be saddened this morning at the news that Big Tom has passed away.

In a statement released shortly after 8.30am Mr McBride’s family said: ”It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father Big Tom McBride (RIP) this morning.

“Dad passed away peacefully in the company of his family.

“He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

“May he rest in peace.”

The 81-year-old’s career spanned over 50 years on the Irish country music scene.

The Monaghan man was inducted into the Irish Country Music Awards Hall of Fame in June 2016.

He was one of several artists who took part in a charity concert in Letterkenny last year following the August floods that devastated parts of Donegal.
