THE funeral takes place in Letterkenny today of Ryan Chan, who was found dead in a police cell in Albufeira earlier this month.

The 29 year-old, late of 4 Kiltoy Court, had been arrested the previous night and was being held in relation to an alleged attack on his partner in the locality, where the couple were attending a wedding.

The restaurant worker was alleged to have attacked the female, aged in her twenties. She had been treated in hospital and was subsequently released and returned home.

The National Republic Guard, Portugal’s police force, have said they are investigating Mr Chan’s death while in custody.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated this morning in the Church of the Irish Martyrs at 11 am with burial afterwards in Conwal Cemetery.

Mr Chan is survived by his partner Megan and their children Ezra and Eli, mother Frances, father Bobby and his wife Yvonne, brother Connor, grandmothers, aunts, uncles, cousins and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours.
