ON Wednesday, March 13, RTE 2 will broadcast an hour-long Other Voices Villagers’ special at 10.55pm.
The RTE special will feature footage from Other Voices, Dingle from December of last year along with highlights from previous years.
Villagers made the pilgrimage to the tiny St James Church in Dingle on a cold weekend in December of last year to treat the audience to eight new songs from their then unreleased album {Awayland} which was recorded at Attica Audio Recording Studio in Termon.
There was a lot of excitement and anticipation in the room that night as the performances ranged from full band to Conor solo.
{Awayland}, which was co-produced by band member an Termon native Tommy McLaughlin who owns Attica Audio, went on to reach the Number 1 position in the Irish chart in January of this year.
Other Voices is renowned for unique and spontaneous performances, and with Villagers in Dingle, it was no different.
Conor was whisked away to the furthest edge of the peninsula on a gorgeous calm morning and was filmed singing The Waves in the open air. The recording can be seen as part of the broadcast on the 13th along with an interview with presenter Aidan Gillen.
Conor has been a guest on Other Voices since his first visit in 2005 and the special will include footage of him across the years in the various guises.
Other Voices spread its wings this year and made a trip to Derry~Londonderry for a fantastic weekend of music in February. The journey now continues east in April, as it travels to London for another three nights of shows in the listed building of Wilton’s Hall, in association with The Barbican.
You can watch some of the performances from Derry and Dingle on the Other Voices YouTube channel.
Other Voices Dingle is supported by RTÉ, Fáilte Ireland, IMRO, the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure Northern Ireland.
(The show will be repeated on RTE2 on Saturday 16th March at 11.45pm).
