Rovers played some superb football in the first half and goals from Paul McVeigh and Darren McElwaine gave them a deserved two-goal lead at the break.

The Cork side offered little in the first half, but they improved after the break and pulled a goal back through Jake Hegarty.

Both teams had decent penalty shouts turned away after that, and Midleton pressed for an equaliser late on.

However, Eamonn McConigley’s team held firm to make it through to the last eight of the Intermediate Cup for the first time since 2004.
