The official switching on of the new floodlights at Leckview Park will take place this Saturday at 7pm before the Liam Blake Memorial Match.
The lights, at a cost of around €100,000, will be switched on by Patsy Blake, widow of the late Liam Blake, who was Club President from 2006 until his sad passing in July 2022.
The match will take place between a Blake Family Select and Rovers club coaches and will be the first to be played under the new lights on the grass pitch in what promises to be a historic occasion.
The installation of the new floodlights is the latest development at Leckview Park which has been transformed in recent years. In May 2022, the club opened it’s new state of the art FIFA approved artificial pitch which cost in the region of €500,000 and now hosts training for all the club’s teams as well as matches. It has also been used to stage games in the national underage leagues and the Girls Emerging Talent programme under the FAI.
Back in July, the newly upgraded grass pitch was re-opened in front of a capacity crowd for the visit of the Manchester United Legends who took on the Letterkenny Rovers Legends. The pitch underwent extensive development work including improved drainage. The senior team have opened their new Premier Division season with two home wins out of two.
The new floodlights, in addition to the floodlit Astro pitch, will now illuminate the sky around Leckview Park. The club received €80,000 in funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Community Recognition Fund in conjunction with the Donegal County Council and LCDC towards the project.
Saturday’s game will begin shortly after the official switch on and everyone is welcome to attend for a special night which will also honour the memory of one of the club’s founding members Liam Blake.
