CELTIC manager Ronny Deila has indicated that he will be utilising the services of Jim McGuinness, a Performance Consultant at the Glasgow club, with the first team in the coming season.
McGuinness was recruited by Celtic after leading Donegal to the All-Ireland in 2012 and he has juggled his role in Glasgow with managing Donegal.
Up to now, McGuinness has worked mainly with Celtic’s youth team players, but Deila – prior to yesterday’s friendly against Rapid Vienna – suggested that the Glenties man would have more involvement with the first team squad.
Deila was a surprise choice to replace Neil Lennon, who stepped down at the end of last season, and McGuinness already met the Norwegian – who attended Celtic’s Champions League clash with Barcelona at Celtic Park last October.
Deila appears to be keen to upgrade McGuinness.
“I want to bring Jim in even more,” Deila, who has brought in John Collins and John Kennedy as assistants, said.
“All my staff’s knowledge is going to be used, I can’t do it all. Of course, I learn a lot because I hire fantastic people around me, but I want all my staff to be a specialist in something and then you need to be even better.
“I’m very curious. I get energy from learning and I think. I’m going to try to be a very good role model.”
Next Tuesday, Celtic play in a Champions League qualifier away to KR Reykavik in Iceland.
