ON a week in which Mickey Rodgers has been confirmed as their new manager, Drumkeen United have confirmed that they are exploring the possibility of joining the Airtricity Under 19 League.
The ambitious St Patrick’s Park club has undertaken a series of developments at the ground in recent times and in a statement that confirmed the appointment of Rodgers as the new manager of their Ulster Senior League team, they said: “The club is checking out the Airtricity Under 19 League. With a new manager, the development of our astroturf facility and our underage teams participating in all Leagues, the club can look forward to a bright 2013.
Rodgers succeeds Benny Bonner as manager and joins the club from Fanad United, where he has acted as manager of their USL team, working alongside Ollie Horgan who manages their League of Ireland under 19 team. His appointment leaves a void at Triagh-A-Locha.
Rodgers has also managed Convoy Arsenal and is well regarded in local soccer circles. He has been involved with the USL Interprovincial team in recent seasons.
As manager, he will be assisted by Paul ‘Ollie’ Doherty with Marty Gormley continuing as coach.
