A MILLIONAIRE businessman has purchased the former Rockhill House and military barracks. John D. Molloy, runs a number of dairy businesses’ including well-known brands Natural Dairies, Green Pastures and the hugely successful Yeats Country Foods.
He splits his time between Donegal and Sligo. Mr Molloy, hopes to restore the home to live in but also ensure it is open for visitors.
His Convoy businesses have taken a huge slice of the health food market in recent years.
The property fetched €670,000 at a public auction on Wednesday afternoon. This was almost three times the guide.
The former army barracks on 29 acres had a guide price of €260,000. The sale includes the landmark Rockhill House (23,618sq ft) and a range of additional buildings and various external areas to include private garden and former practice firing range.
The property was sold after a total of 82 bids. The selling agents were Sherry Fitzgerald Rainey, Letterkenny.
The property was sold on behalf of the Department of Defence who were represented at the auction. About 100 people attended the auction.
Speaking after, Mr Dermot Rainey, said the sale was another sign of the upturn in the property market.
“It shows there is confidence again in the property sector,” he said.
