GARDA investigations are continuing after an overnight armed robbery at a well known shop in Letterkenny.

Up to €300 was stolen from Black’s Centra, Lower Main Street at around 1.25am.

The man was armed with “a large knife” and demanded an employee hand over cash from the till. The terrified employee handed over money and nobody was hurt.

A Garda spokesman told the Donegal News this morning (Tuesday) they were hunting for the man who escaped on foot despite a chase.

The man was wearing a black-blue bomber type jacket and was dark skinned with a foreign accent, but had good English. He was wearing a cap and had his face covered.

He fled on foot up through some local houses and managed to escape.

Gardai in Letterkenny are investigating and have appealed for any information from the public.

They can be contacted on 074-91-22222.

The shop’s owner, well-known local businessman Jason Black, said the shop had been open for 12-years and was only the second time something like this had occurred.
