ROAD markings on many roads around Letterkenny are so poorly marked that they are impacting on road safety, and also posing a major problem for learner drivers, it has been claimed.
Raising the matter at the monthly meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Council, Cathaoirleach Councillor Gerry McMonagle said that the town has 7.2km of roads and it should not be that hard to upkeep them as it was important for road safety and also the aesthetics of the town.
However, he expressed concern about how “lines are almost obliterated on some approaches to roundabouts”, and he was aware that driving instructors are saying that this is not good enough for learner drivers.
He said there are “lines all over the place or non-existent at some roundabouts”.
Cllr Ciaran Brogan seconded his motion and said that “common sense should prevail”.
He noted that the markings at the Oldtown junction at the Hideout are “terrible” and repeated a call for the council to look at purchasing a lining machine for use in the Letterkenny area.
Cllr McMonagle agreed on the latter point rather than having to get a contractor.
