FIVE fishermen had a lucky escape after their boat lost power during a storm off the Donegal coast yesterday (Saturday).
The alarm was raised at lunchtime by the crew of a Mayo-based crabber boat. They managed to put out a Mayday call just before the electrics
shut down.
The appeal for help was picked up by the Belfast Coastguard who in turn alerted Lough Swilly RNLI.
In gales of up to 60mph they set off in search of the stricken vehicle. A rescue vessel from Portrush was also launched while a third
boat from Arranmore joined in the mission.
Fourteen hours after setting off, the teams managed to tow the powerless crabber into Rathmullan.
