RISING Donegal musician George Houston is preparing for his debut national tour which kicks off in the Regional Cultural Centre tomorrow evening.
At only 21 years old George is one of Donegal’s youngest and brightest rising stars. He told the Donegal News that focusing on his music throughout the early days of the pandemic propelled his career massively.
“I was in the class of 2020, we didn’t get to finish school but I used it as an excuse to get recording as soon as we went into lockdown.
“I released my first single Boo F*cking Hoo that September and I haven’t looked back since,” George said.
The Undesired Tour is the next venture of the Burt native’s career, following the launch in the RCC Letterkenny George will also perform in Sandinos Derry, Blackbox Belfast and Whelan’s Dublin.
The RCC is where George played his first ever gig, so it’s only fitting that this is where he decided to kick of his tour.
He has performed there many times since then.
“It’s such a nice venue and there is always a really nice crowd,” he added.
George is bursting with nervous excitement, as the national tour is the first ever event he has organised.
“I have really jumped into the deep end- I think I underestimated what goes into organising gigs,” he said.
Whilst on tour he will support singer songwriter Rory Nellis in Belfast. “This has taken a bit of weight of my shoulders because he is organising the gig,” George laughed.
He also recently supported the Hothouse Flowers at their sold out show in the Guildhall Derry.
Ahead of the gig George thanked his parents for their unwavering support and encouragement, saying that everything he has achieved he owes to them.
“As kids we were encouraged to do what we love, play music, do art and be creative. I think I really took it to heart. I learned to play guitar and piano when I was younger and I am really grateful to my parents for pushing us to do that,” he said.
George Houston will be taking The Undesired Tour to the stage in the Regional Cultural Centre on Thursday 30 March.
Tickets are available through his social media channels.
