Rhys Irwin takes the win at Knockhill british superbikes

A victorious Rhys Irwin returned home from the weekend of dreams at Knockhill, Scotland British Superbikes Round 4 still smiling.

The weekend started off with the usual bike set up adjustments for FP1 & 2 with Rhys finding speed early in the weekend.

Qualifying saw Rhys on the front row of the grid as the third fastest racer for Race 1 on saturday evening, which soon became a three way race battle to the line with Rhys finishing on the heels of World Supersport racer Tom Booth Amos and British Supersport Champion Luke Stapleford.

With all to race for Rhys’s team worked late into the night to find tenths of seconds which is all that separated the top three racers.

Sunday morning warm up saw Rhys feeling comfortable with the new settings and confident for Race 2.

Rhys got a great start for Race 2 with his Team mate Perrins taking the holeshot Rhys quickly settled into leading pace and by lap three was leading with a 1 second lead.

Irwin held his nerve running perfect lines holding off Stapleford and Currie to enjoy celebrations all round as he crossed the line taking the win.

After the race an ecstatic Rhys said, ‘I’m just so,so happy and what a present for my dad on Father’s Day.

“Knockhill is one of the hardest circuits on the calendar and it’s my first time here with this bike.

“I knew I had the fight for the win after Saturday’s race but I just didn’t believe I would do it so early in the season.

“To get the podium yesterday and back it up today with the win is unreal.

“Thanks to my team for the constant work on the bike and of course all my sponsors I just wouldn’t be here without.
