TWENTY-one per cent of patients had a wait of up to 24 hours in Letterkenny University Hospital’s Emergency Department during the snowy weather.
Figures provided to the Donegal News show 266 patients attended the emergency department on Monday and Tuesday of last week.
According to the Patient Experience Time (PET) figures, eight per cent of patients waited over 24 hours in the hospital’s emergency department during the cold snap.
Twenty-one per cent of patients had a stay of between nine to 24 hours, while 18 per cent faced a six to nine-hour wait, according to the figures.
Fifty-three patients had a wait time of less than six hours, the figures show.
The PET is the key performance indicator used by the HSE to measure the duration of a patient’s stay in an Emergency Department.
In a statement, a HSE spokesperson said: “PET is calculated on the time a patient is registered in the Emergency Department to the time the patient leaves the Emergency Department.”
