A RETIRED teacher was killed in a house fire in Inishowen over the weekend and Gardai say they are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Gerry McCabe, a former teacher at Scoil Mhuire in Buncrana, was found at his home in Iskaheen on Saturday. A Garda spokesperson said Gardai in Buncrana launched an investigation after the body of Mr McCabe, who was in his seventies, was discovered by neighbours.
“Initial enquiries would indicate that neither the fire or the death of the male was suspicious in nature,” said the spokesperson.
Mr McCabe had been living in Iskaheen, Muff and was formerly of Letter, Fahan and Newbliss, County Monaghan. His remains will be reposing at Murphy’s Funeral Home today with viewing from 4pm to 8pm followed by the removal to the family home in Letter, Fahan.
The removal to the church will take place on Thursday morning at 10.30am to St Mura’s Church, Fahan for Requiem Mass at 11am.
