A DONEGAL couple walked more than 250km from their home to Dublin to raise awareness of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Retired doctor Mireille Sweeney and her husband John took on the gruelling 255km trek from Ardara to the gates of Leinster House in the capital to highlight their frustration with the continuing genocide in Gaza.
Mrs Sweeney, a French native, had been the local GP in Ardara for many years prior to her retirement last year.
She and her husband have been left so upset by the harrowing images of the atrocities being inflicted on the people of Gaza that they said they simply could not ignore it anymore.
The walk was a peaceful demonstration, and the couple were met at Ha’penny Bridge and again outside the Dáil, where they met with members of the Irish Healthcare Workers For Palestine movement and other groups.
This is a rare act of peaceful protest with deep conviction and quiet courage.
