- THERE is growing frustration among residents of the Old Glencar Road in Letterkenny which is becoming more frequently known as the Grange Road.
- The name was coined in error by Google Maps a number of years ago, but much to the annoyance of locals, it has stuck, so much so that Donegal County Council have even referred to the road as the Grange Road.
- There is a nearby estate called The Grange, but this is accessed from the adjacent Glencar Road, so there is no real relevance.
- This confusion has led to problems for delivery drivers, taxis and people who have recently moved to the area, as the road goes by two completely different names.
- Local councillor Jimmy Kavanagh, who first raised the issue with the council over a year ago, is once again calling on the local authority to resolve the problem with accurate signage.
- Cllr Kavanagh told the Donegal News that he is concerned the mix-up could cause confusion for emergency services responding to incidents.
- The most recent blunder occurred when Uisce Éireann notified customers that works would commence on The Grange road.
- Many assumed the utility provider was referring to the housing estate, but in fact, they meant the Old Glencar Road, leaving residents confused when workers arrived unexpectedly.
- “The council need to help address this by providing proper signage that clearly identifies the road, and it is particularly disappointing that a statutory body like Uisce Éireann is using an incorrect name,” added Cllr Kavanagh.
