Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhride.
A DONEGAL man has just been appointed as the Writer in Residence to Mayo County Council for 2012.
Writer, Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde hails from Gaoth Dobhair and is well-known for his involvement in the arts.
He has written two collections of short stories; Idir Feoil is Leathar (2002) and Díbeartaigh (2005), both published by Coiscéim.
Recently he played the lead role in the feature film Silence, which he co-wrote with the director Pat Collins and Sharon Whooley.
The film premiered at the Jameson International Film Festival in Dublin in February and Eoghan received the Michael Dwyer Discovery Award for his part in the film.
In 2008 Eoghan started a small multi-media company, Éabhlóid, which publishes books and produce television documentaries.
Presently they are in post-production with a documentary directed by Eoghan about the famous Donegal fiddler, John Doherty. The documentary, John Doherty – Ar Leirg na Gaoithe, will be broadcast by TG4 this autumn.
Eoghan is editing his second book for children, Ní thuigimse daoine fasta, a book of newly composed poems that will be published by Éabhlóid shortly.
Eoghan facilitates short-story writing workshops for An Ciorcal Scríbhneoireachta in Gaoth Dobhair and the Ciorcal are currently working on a collection of new short-stories entitled Go dtí an Lá bán which will be published by Éabhlóid.
Every year he facilitates script-writing classes for the students of Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta in Gaoth Dobhair. As part of his residency in May, Eoghan will be working with a number of writers groups and schools across Mayo.
