The cost of renting a house in Donegal has risen by 13.3 per cent in the past year according to the latest report from Daft.ie published this week.
It shows the average rental in the county for a three bed home on May 1 was €1,126.
The report details increased prices across the county with a one bed apartment now costing €727, an increase of 13.8 per cent.
A two bed house to rent now costs on average €893, an increase of 19.6 per cent. Rent for a three bed here is now €1,015 with an increase of 20.6 per cent.
A four bed to rent in Donegal will set you back €1,122, up 17.3 per cent with a five-bed costing €1,073, an increase of 20.9 per cent.
Not surprisingly the Daft.ie report pointed out that there were now less than a third of the houses available to rent in this area, which were available between 2015 and 2019.
The number available to rent in Connaught/Ulster was just 220.
Nationally the number of rental properties available was 2,000 unchanged since the same time last year and one of the lowest on record back as far as 2006.
The average rental nationally was €1,836 with south Dublin the most expensive at €2,453 which was only showing a 1.1 per cent increase year on year.
This has been attributed to the increased stock of rental properties.
Even the cost of renting a single or double room in the region has increased by an average of ten per cent. A single room to rent on May 1 is costing €570 while a double is now at €641.
A look at the Daft.ie houses to rent in Letterkeny website this week showed just nine houses to rent ranging in rents from €1,200 to €1,800 per month.
As more owners of defective concrete homes start to demolish in order to rebuild, demand for rental houses in Donegal is expected to remain massive.
