Renowned architect and presenter remembered following sudden passing

TRIBUTES have been paid to TV presenter and architect Hugh Wallace following his sudden death at the age of 68.

Hugh, who passed away at home in Dublin on Sunday night, was best known to TV audiences as a long-serving judge on the series Home of the Year and as The Great House Revival.

In the most recent season of The Great House Revival, Hugh travelled to Donegal to meet Asset Manager Eoghan O’Riain, who was looking to set up roots in his native Rathmullan.

During the episode, which aired in March 2025, Hugh and Eoghan worked together to renovate a terrace house with a breath-taking view of Lough Swilly.

They transformed the derelict property into a comfortable, modern home while carefully preserving its architectural heritage.

Speaking after Hugh’s sudden passing, Eoghan reflected on their time together.

He described Hugh as a warm and charismatic person whose kindness made a lasting impact.

“He was someone who truly wanted the best for everyone he met,” Eoghan said.

In the days leading up to the final filming in Donegal, Hugh spent the week in Rathmullan with his husband, Martin.

During this time, they immersed themselves in the local community, connecting with residents, supporting local businesses and seeing the sights.

“Hugh brought the same kindness, fun and warm heartedness off camera that audiences cherished on-screen,” Eoghan added.

“Above all, it was clear how much Hugh and Martin loved each other. Their bond was evident from the moment I met them both together, and my heart goes out to Martin during this unimaginably difficult time.”

“Hugh’s legacy will live on in the joy he brought to others and the genuine care he showed in every interaction,” he said.
