Kevin Welch.
TIONSCNAMH Lugh is proud to present and welcome to West Donegal award-winning singer/songwriter Kevin Welch to Ionad Naomh Padraig, Dore, for an intimate Concert on Friday, May 4 (8.30pm).
The Nashville artist who is based in Austin, Texas will also be giving a songwriting workship on Saturday, May 5, at the centre (11am-2pm).
Welch’s poetic songs paint pictures of real people – people you know, people you’ve seen – so clearly that you realise quickly he’s a keen observer of the human experience. His songs have an almost filmic quality in their vision and beauty.
After growing up in Oklahoma Kevin moved to Nashville in the mid ‘70’s and became a songwriter for artists such as Moe Bandy, Waylon Jennings, Steve Earle, Roger Miller, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, The Highwaymen, The Judds, The Kendalls, Patty Loveless, Reba McEntire, Ricky Skaggs, Pam Tillis, Randy Travis, Don Williams, and Trisha Yearwood to name just a few big names he has worked with over the years.
In 2004, Kevin began recording as a band with fellow Dead Reckoners, Kieran Kane and Fats Kaplin.
Together their albums wowed critics and topped Americana charts.
Kevin’s recordings are popular around the world, particularly in Europe where his tours are greeted with sold-out houses.
His tales of lost friends, broken dreams and even serial killers are brought into sharp relief against the pared-down beauty of the music. Now resident in Austin Texas. He continues to write, and tour regularly.
