Remembrance service for bereaved parents

LETTERKENNY University Hospital is inviting parents and their families who have experienced bereavement through the death of a child to a remembrance service.

The remembrance service will take place in Conwal Parish Church on Sunday, April 28. It is open to all who have lost a baby through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, still birth or neo-natal death.

Ahead of the service, a tidy up of the Little Angels burial ground in Leck cemetery will take place on Thursday, April 25 to remove old flowers and any broken items. Families are invited to participate in the clean up of the grave.

As part of our programme of care for the Little Angels’ grave regular maintenance work will be carried out in order to keep the area in good condition.

Lorna Sweeney, bereavement midwife at LUH said: “We know how important the Little Angels grave is to all families who have suffered the loss of a baby. We want to ensure the grave is well maintained out of respect for those who rest there and also for families who visit the plot to remember their loved ones.

“Our remembrance service also offers parents who have experienced bereavement an opportunity to reflect on their grief journey through symbol, music and prayer. Parents who have attended this service in the past have shared with us that they have found it to be a time of healing and comfort.”

The Non-demoninational remembrance service will take place at 4pm on Sunday, 28 April in Conwal Parish Church and families are welcome to join other families for light refreshments afterwards.

Families who wish to take part in the tidy up can do so by contacting Lorna Sweeney bereavement midwife on 0873606850 or by email – lornasweeney1@hse.ie
