Relegation for Donegal hurlers as Derry dominate derby

Donegal 0-9 Derry 2-23

The Donegal Senior hurlers have been relegated from Division 2 of the National Hurling League after they were well beaten by Derry in O’Donnell Park today.

Donegal had high hopes going into the match but Derry were really up for it and soon took control.

Christy McNaughton led the way with six points and Derry were sharp in attack.

Donegal hit seven wides in the first half and only had three Gerard Gilmore frees to show for their efforts.

Donegal’s challenge became even more arduous when Shea Cassidy hit the net for Derry 18 seconds after the restart.

Conor Gartland scored two points in the second half, but Derry proved much too strong.

Thomas Brady added a second goal for Derry who impressed in the final quarter.

Donegal will play Division 3 hurling in 2026, and they now have to pick themselves up ahead of the start of the Christy Ring Cup in April.
