RELAY for Life 2024 has been hailed a massive success with up to 3,000 people attending the event at ATU in Letterkenny at different stages over Saturday and Sunday.
On a weekend of celebration and much emotion, Relay for Life ran for 24 hours from Saturday afternoon through until Sunday and one of the highlights of the weekend was the luminaria light display on Saturday night. Around 4,500 candle bags circled ATU’s running track in memory of those no longer here.
Relay for Life Chairman Seamus Devine told the Donegal News yesterday evening as the event concluded that around 3,000 people attended over the weekend. Some 1,200 people attended the opening ceremony on Saturday afternoon and that figure more than doubled to 3,000 plus for the ever popular Daniel O’Donnell concert yesterday. Daniel and his wife Majella are patrons of Donegal Relay for Life.
“The huge crowd was a testament to Daniel and Majella’s pulling power and they give so much so willingly,” Seamus Devine said.
“We had 38 teams taking part this year, up form 29 last year, and the weather very kindly worked with us.
“Everything went according to plan and it is a huge honour for me to be involved with something so special. We estimate we have raised around €91, 317 so far with a lot more still to come in from teams and online.”
