THE HSE has launched a major recruitment drive to fill a number of positions within the Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT).
According to a newspaper advertisement in our sister newspaper, The Fermanagh Herald, HSE Community Healthcare Organisation (CHO) 1 Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo is recruiting a number of grades for CDNT.
These posts include social workers, dieticians, staff grade and senior grade physiotherapist, staff grade and senior grade occupational therapist and a staff grade and senior grade speech and language therapist.
Newly qualified or experienced candidates are invited to apply for the vacant posts by sending an up-to-date CV to the relevant HR department.
Alarm was voiced at the latest meeting of Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB) in Septmeber, when it was heard to what extremity children and parents are suffering because of huge vacancies in disability teams.
Figures provided to a Donegal parent revealed 36 vacant positions within Donegal’s three Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNT).
The areas most affected are speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and psychology.
Councillor Albert Doherty told of how parents in Inishowen had received a letter from the manager of Inishowen CDNT in August, advising that the network teams are experiencing “significant challenges” in terms of recruitment and vacancies.
The letter also warned how, despite actively engaging with HR, they have been unable to recruit additional staff to fill the vacancies.
Due to this, CDNT said it was forced to prioritise “only those children with complexities in each of these areas”.
