RATHMULLAN Pier will re-open to the public tomorrow after a 10-month closure to facilitate significant refurbishment works.
The €4.6 million refurbishment works, which were carried out by Mayo Construction Company, Cunningham Civil and Marine, began last April.
Confirming the news earlier this week, Donegal County Councillor Pauric McGarvey said he is delighted to see the pier re-opening.
“As the finishing touches take place on Rathmullan Pier this week, it is great to see the works complete,” Cllr McGarvey said.
“A big thanks to Seamus and his team at Cunningham Civil and Marine, Co Mayo, who worked extremely hard and in some dangerous conditions to carry out the works and complete the project.
“They have been a pleasure to have working in the area.
“They worked well both with ourselves and the public, helped local groups with projects and supported local businesses.”
Cllr McGarvey also thanked Charlie McConalogue TD.
“Thanks to Charlie McConalogue for his work in securing the funding to carry out and complete the works and ensuring the pier stands strong for many years to come,” he said.
“We hope to see the pier used more and attract more tourism to the village.”
Cllr McGarvey also expressed his gratitude to Donegal County Council Marine Department and Roads Department for leading the project over the last ten months, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
“It will be fantastic to see it opened to the public this Friday,” Cllr McGarvey concluded.
