RATHMULLAN native Willie McAteer has been charged with financial irregularities at the former Anglo Irish Bank. He was the second-in-command at Anglo Irish Bank in the run-up to the bank’s meltdown.
The former Anglo finance director was charged on Tuesday along with former Managing Director (Ireland) Mr Patrick Whelan in relation to alleged financial irregularities at the failed bank.
The following morning Chief Executive, Mr Sean Fitzpatrick was arrested as he landed at Dublin Airport on a flight from the US.
He too has been charged with financial irregularities at the bank. Mr McAteer was the second-highest ranking executive after chief executive, FitzPatrick and later David Drumm, when the latter took over running the bank in 2005.
