HISTORY will be made next month when for the first time in over half a century a passenger train will run through the night in Donegal.
It’s all part of a 24-hour marathon fundraiser in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.
The event will take place on May 4-5 at Oakfield Park in Raphoe, the home of Sir Gerry Robinson and Lady Heather Robinson as part of the Relay for Life Cancer fundraising effort in Donegal.
Oakfield Park Estate Manager Brian McElhinney explained: “We are involved with the ‘Claire’s Bluebells’ Relay for Life team which is based in Raphoe.
“Claire is the late wife of one of our staff at Oakfield Park who lost her battle with cancer last year.
“The main feature of our event is the 24 hour train drive for which we are inviting sponsorship from businesses.
“For every €50 of sponsorship we receive the sponsor business will be entered into a draw.
The prizes on offer include three separate one-to-one half day business advice sessions with Sir Gerry Robinson, well known for his success in business.
We will be offering entertainment on the Saturday evening and a family fun day on the Sunday (12 to 6pm).”
