RAGLAN Road, Eleanor Plunkett and Grace are just a few songs that feature on transition year student, Eunan O’Hagan’s new charity CD.
Recorded as a mini company project in Deele College, ‘The Irish Tin Whistle Way’ has so far raised over €500 for Jigsaw Donegal.
Eunan started playing the tin whistle in 2019 and has developed a passion for Irish history and traditional music over the past three years.
Eunan decided to produce a CD for his mini-company project as he, in his own words, is a “musical man”.
“My granny Kate has been the inspiration for my CD. She is 87 years old and ‘Boulavogue’ is her favourite song. I always play it for her when I am up visiting.
“My friend Travis is very talented on computers, he designed the cover.
“I absolutely loved the process of making the CD, it took three weeks to record. The fact we were recording in a classroom made the process harder. Even if someone closed a door I’d have to retake the whole song,” he said.
Usually transition year students get to keep all profits they make, however, Eunan and Travis decided to donate their profits to Jigsaw Donegal.
Jigsaw Donegal provides a free and confidential support service for young people aged 12 to 25 years old.
It aims to make sure that young people’s voices are heard and that they get the right support, where and when they need it.
But this CD couldn’t have been produced without the help of music teacher, Con McFadden.
Con worked alongside Eunan throughout the project, accompanying him on piano and guitar on some tracks.
However, Con wasn’t the only one to feature on the CD, Miss Laurah Stewart also played piano and famed local musician, Christy Murray, guests on the song ‘Mná na hÉireann’.
So far, the CD, pictured left, has been a resounding success and is currently sold out in Coyles Centra in Raphoe and Deele College.
With hopes to restock the shelves soon, at €5 this CD is the perfect stocking filler for any music lover.
For now, Eunan is lapping up his new-found fame and in the future he hopes to start his own band.
