HUNDREDS of well-wishers turned out in Raphoe on Friday night to welcome home the 2013 Donegal Rose, Catherine McCarron.
The 26-year old was back in her hometown for the first time since representing Donegal at the 2013 Rose of Tralee last week and was taken aback by the reception she received.
“It was just so overwhelming to see so many people,” she said.
Catherine, who sang Destination Donegal in Tralee, said it had been ‘the best two weeks of my life’. “I had such an amazing time and made so many new friends,” she said.
A daughter of John and Margaret McCarron, she was met by Donegal piper Christy Murray and paraded to a marquee reception at St Eunan’s Terrace. Music was provided by Eugene McGinley, Tony Quinn and Austin Quinn. Fr Denis McGettigan also treated the crowd to a song while local resident Charlie O’Kane recited a poem he wrote for the occasion.
