The website was launched by Melissa Laird and Jason Toner, two participants on the IFI funded Volunteering in the Community Programme delivered by DLDC.

The event was well attended by members of the local community as well as representatives from the International Fund for Ireland, An Gaisce- the President’s Award – and Donegal County Council.
Melissa and Jason developed the Online Diary as a Community Project while participating on the Volunteering in the Community Programme.

The idea behind the Online Diary is to encourage all community groups, schools and other bodies in Raphoe and the immediate surrounding areas to advertise their events through this free website.
This will allow groups to choose dates for their events and to check whether or not any other organisation already has an event happening on that date.

It will also allow the public to access information about activities and events taking place in their area. Speaking at the Launch on Tuesday night, Dr Caoimhín Mac Aoidh,CEO of Donegal Local Development Company said: “This is an extremely useful tool in maximising the community based activities in Raphoe. DLDC is aware that there is a vast amount of positive community action in Raphoe and we expect that this great achievement will serve to increase that level.”

He added: “It is also an excellent example of how the partnership style of working through DLDC, the IFI, An Gaisce and the Raphoe FRC with local communities and youth can achieve significant results.”
