THE Raphoe Diocese has two new Vicars General, Fr Francis McLoone PP of Killymard and Fr Michael McKeever, Secretary to Bishop Alan McGuckian.
The new bishop made the appointments just over a week ago, creating two posts where there was just one previously held by Monsignor Dan Carr.
Bishop McGuckian confirmed the appointment of the two new Vicars General during an interview with the Donegal News this week and explained their role.
“Both Fr McLoone and Fr McKeever can deputise for me in my absence and we work together on diocesan matters,” he said.
Mons. Francis McLoone said this week it was a great honour to be asked to be a Vicar General.
“Our job is to deputise and support the bishop. We offer our advice from time to time and discuss whatever initiatives he would develop.
“My primary role is to be Parish Priest here in Killymard,” he said.
The Glenties native said he, Bishop McGuckian and Fr McKeever would get together from time to time to discuss diocesan issues.
Fr McKeever who was ordained by Bishop Philip Boyce in July 1999, went on to become the Bishop’s Secretary – a role he continues under Bishop Alan McGuckian. Fr McKeever is a native of Lough Head, Killybegs and is also CC Church Hill.
