Lafferty has been in superb form and Saturday’s win was the sixth title of the season.

Despite being trouble by a knee injury that has affected her training of late, Lafferty turned in a good performance to overcome Alannah Mayse from the Two Castles ABC in Newtownstewart.

Already this year, Lafferty has won the Donegal Novices, Donegal Open, Ulster 9 Counties Novices, Ulster 9 Counties Open and the North-West Zones titles.

Lafferty now goes forward to compete in the National Girl Championships, to be held at the weekend in the National Stadium.

Mairead Dobbins of the Illies Golden Gloves will join her in the capital after she overcame a first round deficit to defeat Clodagh McCommiskey (Gilford). In the Girl 15 50kgs final, Dobbins was behind after a blistering first stanza from McCommiskey, but the Illies woman put that behind her to record an impressive win.

There was no such joy for Ciara Doherty, the St Bridget’s Clonmany boxer beaten in the Girl 15 57kgs final by Castleblayney’s Caitlin McQuillan.

A host of Donegal boxers had walkover wins in the Ulster finals and will also go forward to the national finals: Girl 11 – Mary Bridget McCann (Carndonagh, 36kgs), Chloe McDaid (Illies, 42kgs), Lauren Doherty (Carndonagh (46kgs), Shannah Tiffoney (Bundoran, 60kgs); Girl 12 – Jodi Lafferty (Twin Towns, 52kgs), Rachel Dixon (Carndonagh, 57kgs); Gril 13 – Jessica Clarke (Carndonagh, 44kgs), Ciara Craig (Dunfanaghy, 46kgs), Becky Diver (Carndonagh, 48kgs); Girl 14 – Labhaoise Clarke (Carndonagh, 52kgs), Kristina McFadden (Dunfanaghy, 66kgs); Girl 15 – Ciara Anderson (Twin Towns, 46kgs); Girl 16 – Niamh McCole (Dungloe, 60kgs).
