Ramelton restaurant takes part in ‘One Plate for Palestine’ initiative

By Dionne Meehan

A RAMELTON restaurant is showing solidarity with communities in Gaza by taking part in the ‘One Plate for Palestine’ initiative.

Launched in Cork, the initiative has brought restaurants across the country together to raise vital funds for those living in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

Hoping their participation will spark a domino effect among restaurants across Donegal, Roisin Llorente of the Bridge Bar in Ramelton shared her reasons for getting involved.

“Like everybody, we are just so frustrated and you feel like there is nothing you can do,” Roisin told the Donegal News.

“On a day to day basis, what can you do?

“You just feel helpless.

“So, when we found out about this initiative, we wanted to get involved.”

For the next two weeks, the Bridge Bar Restaurant will be serving a Palestinian themed dish, using products from Palestine, in a bid to raise funds for charities ‘Gaza go bragh’ and ‘T.E.A. collective’.

The dish they chose to make is called freekeh salad, a nutrient-rich grain salad, which will be accompanied by a lemon and mint dressing.

The dish is priced at €8 and will be available for two weeks.

“The monies raised will go directly to the two beneficiaries who will then divide the funds amongst communities in Gaza,” Roisin said.

“So far, within a couple of days, the fundraiser has already surpassed €13,000.

“We hope other restaurants will get involved and support it when they hear about it.

“Like everything in Donegal, I think we are a bit out of the loop and we are maybe the last to hear about some of these things.

“But the quicker you jump on the better.”
