Ramelton man jailed for drugs possession

A RAMELTON man currently serving a custodial sentence was handed down a further jail sentence this week when his case was dealt with at Letterkenny District Court.

Michael Connors (23), Cashelshanaghan, appeared before Letterkenny District Court on Monday via videolink where he was further imprisoned for three months. Connors is charged that on December 22, 2023 at Kinnear Lane, he had unlawfully in his possession a controlled drug, to wit, namely cocaine. The offence is contrary to Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 and Contrary to 27 (1) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 as substituted by Section 6 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1984.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court how on the day in question gardaí observed a Volkswagen Passat acting in a suspicious manner. The car was stopped and the driver spoken with. Cocaine to the value of €100 was found.

Connors was fully compliant with gardaí, the court heard. Solicitor Mr Rory O’Brien told the court that a probation report carried out on his client was “very positive”.

Judge Emile imposed a three-month sentence to run concurrently, in light of Connors’ plea and the fact he has taken efforts to address matters.
