Ramelton Café’s creation a big hit with award winning chef

By Dionne Meehan

AWARD winning Chef Gary O’Hanlon’s ‘perfect chip shop order’ is a “single sausage, curry tap” out of Steve’s Café in Ramelton.

Discussing his favourite chip shop order on his podcast ‘Dishing it out’, the Ramelton man educated fellow chef, Gareth Mullins, about the local delicacy.

In this week’s episode, Gary spoke fondly of the “wee café” in his local town that made “the curry tap” famous.

“So it is a single sausage, curry ‘tap’, that is how you order it,” he said.

Despite the name implying you get a ‘single’ sausage, many get more than they bargained for when ordering this off the menu.

“So a single sausage isn’t a single sausage either,” he joked.

“It is three battered sausages in a little foil box, full of chips and then you get a ladle of chicken curry over the top of it.

“It is the greatest chip shop order,” he said.

Urging the public to try the Ramelton favourite, Gary told listeners to go to “Steve’s Café on the hill in Ramelton”.

Gary and Gareth’s new weekly podcast has been described as a “must-listen” for food enthusiasts and promises to serve up a feast of culinary wisdom, tackle kitchen conundrums and treat your ears to mouth-watering tales.
