UPWARDS on 60,000 motorsport enthusiasts are expected to converge on Donegal this weekend for the 2013 Donegal International Rally.
The Donegal International Rally is only three-day tarmac rally that remains in Ireland.
165 crews will take to the Donegal roads this weekend: 135 in the main field, 14 in the historics and 26 in the juniors.
The mainfield entrants will tackle 20 special stages run over 290km of Donegal’s famous landmark runs, including Gartan, Glen Village, Knockalla, Atlantic Drive and Fanad Head.
Defending champion Garry Jennings, with Glen’s Neil Doherty calling the notes, is the number one seed.
Jennings’ Subaru S12b is the first car off the start ramp on the Port Road this morning, Friday, around 11.15.
The first car is due on the opening stage, Breenagh, at 12 noon.
The road milage has been cut considerably, by 280km, from last year, although the stage milage remain the same.
Parce ferme will be at Letterkenny Institute of Technology and the rally office is at the Mount Errigal Hotel, where the event finishes on Sunday evening.
