SPEED reduction measures using ‘raised tables’ could soon be a feature around many towns and villages in Donegal.
Cllr. Michael McBride has this week called for the installation of three ‘raised tables’ through the village of Churchill to slow traffic, similar to those in Newtowncunningham which have proven to be very successful.
In response to his motion at the October meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Council, he was informed that a speed survey will be carried out as well as a safety assessment.
Cllr. McBride said that there has been a lot of discussion about slowing down traffic and he was “highly impressed” with raised tables through Newtowncunningham.
He noted that Cllr. Paul Canning, who is from Newtowncunningham, has proposed that the raised table traffic calming measures be rolled out around the county.
Meanwhile, a motion from Cllr. Ciaran Brogan calling for a discussion on the possibility of providing new traffic calming measures in the municipal district area was also passed.
In particular, he raised the concerns of people in the Dromore and Lisnennan areas where there have been calls for traffic calming for many years.
Other councillors also agreed that this is an ongoing issue, but little seems to be done.
Cllr. Borgan proposed that the matter be discussed at a forthcoming workshop.
