RACHAEL Darragh continued in the family ways at the weekend when she proved to be the star turn at the Under-17 National Badminton Championships in Lisburn.

The young Donegal woman, a niece of Raphoe’s double Olympian Chloe Magee, swept the boards in winning a hat-trick of titles, claiming victory in the girls singles, girls doubles and mixed doubles finals.

Darragh was pushed hard by Kate Frost in the early stages of an entertaining singles final, before going on to win 21-13, 21-8.In the mixed doubles, she paired up with Paul Reynolds , beating Norman Lau and Rebecca Getty comfortably at 21-13  21-13.

Not so easy was the girls’ doubles where Darragh and partner Moya Ryan had to fight hard for their victory. They lost the opening game against Frost and Kerri Scott 21-16, but pulled themselves back into the match when they took the second. The decider went to 20-20 before Darragh and Ryan closed out the match at 23-21.
