Jason Quigley made light work of Mexico’s Fernando Marin early this morning as he scored a third round knockout win at the Hangar in Costa Mesa, California.
In a one-sided bout, it was a nice combination, ending with a clean right hand, that finally dropped the Mexican to the floor.
This was the Ballybofey man’s second straight win after losing his previous undefeated record to Tureano Johnson last July.
Quigley said after: “It’s the first fight I really enjoyed my performance in a long time. I made a lot of sacrifices; I made a lot of changes. My career was in limbo for a little bit, with injuries and different things, moving camps and moving trainers.
“Tonight showed I did the best thing possible for me and it’s starting to show.”
What the immediate plans are for the fighter, he wasn’t so sure giving his in ring reaction. But the long term goal remains a middleweight world title shot.
“I’ve never called anyone out in my life. I’m not one to call these lads out but I want to be a world champion.”
Andy Lee, the fighter’s coach, said he has asked promotoers GoldenBoy to switch Quigley’s base to the east coast of America.
“It was a huge improvement from the last fight. He’s starting to show little bits of what he can do.
“I’m happy with it. He’s still only showing glimpses of what he is doing in the gym. There is a different tension when there is a real, live opponent trying to knock you out. Overall, I’m happy with that improvement.
“I thought the referee was going to step in during the second round. Jason really hurt him and then a sneaky right hand did the damage when all those heavy shots would budge him.
“I’ve asked Golden Boy to get Jason to the east coast. He’s an Irish fighter and that’s where he needs to be.”
