FORMER European Youth Champion Jason Quigley headlines a major boxing tournament, hosted by his club Finn Valley ABC, this evening at the Finn Valley Centre, Stranorlar.
The 2009 European Youth kingpin and twice Irish senior finalists Quigley lines up against Navan’s Chris Blaney in a contest that will have the sparks flying at the Millbrae venue.
Blaney himself has been advancing well on the national stage and his meeting with Quigley is the standout bout of a top-class fight night that has 14 contests on the card.
While Quigley is the marquee name from the Finn Valley club, he is joined by a host of fighters with national and international titles aside their names.
Recently crowned Irish champion Michael Gallagher, a six times Irish champion, is also on the bill, as is world bronze medalist, the tricky Austeja Auciute.
Irish champions Leon Gallagher and Francis Mongan, twice Irish kingpin Orin McDermott, Ulster champion Leon Quigley, North-west winner James O’Brien and Irish finalist Andrew Gallagher all on the list.
A ferocious action on the canvas is anticipated. Doors open at 7pm, with boxing to commence around 7.30/8pm.
These are busy times on the local boxing scene with the North-west zones finals for 11, 12 and 13 year-olds taking place in the Letterkenny Boxing Gym on Sunday. Weigh-in is from 9.30-11am with boxing set to begin at 1pm.
Next Friday night, the Raphoe ABC host a major tournament in the Cathedral Hall while the following night, Saturday March 24th, the Illies Golden Gloves welcome one of the top boxing clubs in Ireland, St Michael’s of Athy, to the Halfway House in Burnfoot for a tournament.
