Quality acts set to delight at Letterkenny Busking Festival

LETTERKENNY’S Main Street will play host to an afternoon of entertainment and some top quality acts this Saturday afternoon.

The annual Letterkenny Busking Festival, now in its ninth year, has attracted talented buskers and performers from lots of different genres, creating great entertainment and a fun atmosphere for all to enjoy. And this Saturday, August 17, promises to be no different.

The buskers start their performances at 1.30pm all along the Main Street. For an hour and a half they will sing, play instruments and perform some great tunes.

They love an audience cheering them on so the public are invited to come along to Main Street from lunchtime to see all the acts.

Over the years there have been folk bands, rappers, rock and jazz bands and even magicians. Families, young people and more seasoned performers are there to entertain and compete to win one of the cash prizes.

“We’re so looking forward to the Busking Fest this year,” said Claire McDonough, President of Letterkenny Chamber, which is organising the Busking Festival through its ShopLK Brand, now celebrating its 20th anniversary.

“Last year’s event was a tremendous success with some fantastic entertainers. The busking festival brings entertainment, music, and fun to the streets for the day. It makes for a great family occasion, and we always find hidden talent among the performers, some of whom go on to perform professionally.

Jimmy Stafford, Chair of the festival committee, is encouraging people to take part and to come to cheer people along, “Over the years we have seen some great talent on display at the festival.

“We know it’s not about the competition but over the years we have seen some brilliant acts who really put on a great show for the audiences and particularly the judges. There is a top prize of €500 to be won so we anticipate fierce competition for the top spot.”

The prize -giving takes place at Blakes Bar where there will be some entertainment before the winners are announced.

Everyone is welcome to join in congratulating the winners.

Funded through the Retail Promotion initiative by Donegal County Council, the annual Letterkenny Busking Festival serves as a platform to showcase the boundless talent from Letterkenny and beyond. Saturday promises to be an exceptional day for all everyone involved.
