Public urged to report all incidents of dangerous driving

GARDAÍ have urged the public to report incidents of dangerous driving following a frightening episode at the weekend witnessed by motorists and onlookers.

A video capturing the incident involving a silver Lexus, on Saturday, May 3 in Bridgend, was widely shared online. It showed the vehicle driving at speed and skidding around the roundabout.

Gardaí have appealed to motorists who were in the area at the time, and who observed the vehicle involved to make contact with gardaí in Buncrana on (074) 9320540.

Anyone who was in the area between 8pm to 10pm with a dash-cam is also urged to make the footage available to investigating gardaí.

Meanwhile, gardaí are also calling on the public to always report any incidents of poor driver behaviour to them, particularly when the manner of driving is considered dangerous. People may do this my contacting a garda station or making a report via the Traffic Watch online reporting form. In an emergency situation, members of the public should always call 999/112.

Traffic Watch is a partnership approach with the public to improve driver behaviour, reducing the number of road collisions and fatalities.

Members of the public can report non-emergency traffic-related incidents using our online reporting form. These online reports are logged by garda staff at the Garda Information Services Centre, who then forward the report to the superintendent in the relevant community engagement area to progress.

A garda spokesperson outlined how Traffic Watch works.

“The Superintendent will appoint a member of An Garda Síochána to investigate a Traffic Watch complaint. The investigating member makes contact with the complainant to establish the complainant’s version of events; establish is there are other witnesses to the alleged incident; discuss the possible actions available and take a written statement of complaint.”
