Public toilets in Dunfanaghy face closure if caretaker role not filled

By Dionne Meehan

DUNFANAGHY Tidy Towns are on the hunt for a caretaker to maintain the public toilets in their town.

Taking on the responsibility on behalf of Donegal County Council eight years ago, the toilets, which they say are a vital amenity, will now face closure if the role can’t be filled by Friday, January 31.

Branding the closure of the toilets a “total disaster”, local Cllr Michael McClafferty said it is vitally important they remain open.

“We have thousands of tourists walking about Dunfanaghy on any given day in the summertime,” he told the Donegal News.

“It is vitally important that these toilets remain open.

“It is not fair for businesses to be asked, if the public toilets are closed, to step up to the mark.”

If Dunfanaghy Tidy Towns are unsuccessful in filling the role, they will have to pass the keys back to Donegal County Council at the end of the month.

“It is going to be a sad day if they have to hand back keys because they can’t get somebody to maintain them,” Cllr McClafferty said.

If you or someone you know is interested in taking on this paid role, please contact 086 882 6044 for more information.
