A public information evening is being held in Raphoe on Friday night to discuss the taking of a judicial review in relation to the defective concrete blocks scandal.
The meeting is being organised by the Justice 4 Donegal Defective Concrete Home and Properties Organisation set up back in October 2023.
Standing Donegal County Councillor Frank McBrearty is a member of the group of 16 home and property owners affected by the defective building materials. According to Cllr McBrearty the members are frustrated at the suffering being inflicted by the two unworkable government grant schemes.
“It is just over 10 years since the first campaign was established to seek compensation for what was and is still happening to our homes and properties,” he said.
“Two campaigns later, and we are no further forward in getting the justice which we deserve and to which we are entitled. We have been hindered and failed by local and national politicians.
“We believe the only way we will get justice and the correct engineering solution is by way of judicial review against IS 465. We hope this will force the Government and the NSAI to withdraw this flawed standard and replace it with the correct EU directives that is already adopted by the NSAI (I.S. EN 12620 & I.S. EN 771-3).”
The public meeting takes place this Friday, May 31, in the Volt House in Raphoe at 7pm.
